Carol Isherwood

Carol is an Associate in Shoosmiths Intellectual Property and Creative Industries Team based in Manchester. She specialises in advising creative and digital businesses on many forms of commercial contracts including trade mark licences, confidentiality agreements, merchandising and sponsorship agreements and copyright licences and assignments; and on contentious matters, including passing off, copyright infringement, trade mark infringement and design right infringement claims.

Carol has particular experience in music law and her clients include musicians, music managers, producers, independent record labels and music festivals. As well as advising on contractual matters e.g. management agreements, recording and publishing agreements, producer agreements and licensing deals, Carol has successfully acted in a large number of high value cases including music manager disputes and copyright infringement claims.

Carol is a regular speaker at music industry events and has been a panellist at Liverpool Sound City, Music Managers Forum induction days and at events organised by both the PRS and leading music development agency, Generator. Carol has also ran music law clinics at Liverpool Sound City and at Kendal Calling Festival and provided music law lectures at BIMM, LIPA and Leeds College of Music.

Prior to becoming a lawyer Carol was the lead singer/songwriter in a signed band and subsequently worked in music management for several years.
